Cactuses in Malta

Yes, I really like Cactuses.
Before anyone complains about my plural of cactus, I refer you to dictionary.reference.com/search?q=cactus

A while back I wrote something about the Agave Cactus, and how it shoots up a giant spike when it flowers. I found some cactuses in Malta with giant spikes, but I guess the flowers have long gone.

These cactuses don't look much like cactuses in the picture, but I assure you that they are. You can't beat looking at cactuses against a lovely blue sky.

Agave cactus;- those shown in your picture have not yet flowered. When complete they resemble a christmas tree shape with flowers which later later develop into individual plantlets at the end of the branches. This all happens within the one summer season, whilst the host plant dies leaving scores of small new plants to continue its domination of the local area.
